Is it OK for a 13 year old to watch American Psycho? ›

The characters quite often drink alcohol, smoke cigarettes and cigars, and sometimes snort cocaine or take pills. These characters are clearly irredeemable, and do not learn much of anything during the course of the story. The movie is entertaining in a horrific, comical way, but is certainly not for kids under 18.

He picks up two prostitutes while trying to incriminate Paul Allen; he gives them his name, brings them to his apartment, and has sex with both of them while videotaping it. And later, he bruises them and makes them bleed by the time they were about to leave; even later, one of the girls remarks that.

At the beginning of American Psycho, Bateman is a 27-year-old successful specialist in mergers and acquisitions with the fictitious Wall Street investment firm of Pierce & Pierce (also Sherman McCoy's firm in The Bonfire of the Vanities).

15+ Rating is a little extreme; fine for teenagers

Yes this is not a film for small children and some elements are creepy but this is not really scary nowadays. Rather just a masterfully done thriller that any teen who is a movie fan should be able to enjoy without having to worry too much about content.

11-13 year olds may be better equipped to navigate the scary movie scene on some level but each child is different. If your child watches something that they say is not scary to them but then starts coming to you at night wanting to sleep closer to you or is having nightmares let their behavior speak for them.
